so true what hes saying too, our education system isnt suited to most kids, it actually ruins their natural potential as productive human beings, and tries to squeez their round brains into a square hole
i’d love to know how i’d of turned out, if the things i enjoyed+was good at were nurtured+explored rather than discouraged

actually, arabic …
actually, arabic numbers are representations of angles, the numeral 1 has one angle, 2 has two angles, three… so on. You have to write them down in straight lines, as the originals were, to see it. Zero is a no angle, that is why it is a circle.
This is very good, …
This is very good, Ken Robinson is absolutely right and incredibly funny.
The point he makes round 17:40 is so sharp.
Hear, hear, hear!! …
Hear, hear, hear!! Viva la free thinking and creativity.
I’m just saying …
I’m just saying that culture has been there before now, even if not as abundantly. Think about the scientific greats: Galileo, Aristotle, Plato, Socrates. Certainly they are responsible for many breakthroughs. If the cultural background wasn’t there during their time, then it must not make a difference.
Well no, when you …
Well no, when you come to think about it it’s just after renaissance that the culture is really there for scientific breakthroughs, before that was the dark ages where math and science are treated as inferior to religion. So the culture background of free-thinking must be present before any scientific breakthrough is remotely possible.
I don’t think it’s …
I don’t think it’s just recently. Science has prevailed now and then all throughout history. It’s just recently we’ve been able to make dramatic, long-term progress.
Only recently my …
Only recently my friend. Culture must be there to propel these higher research.
The first arabic …
The first arabic numbers were of course artistic renditions, and the languages they were explained in were to a large degree to the product of the collective human mind. Countless songs hold valid tangible values. Art is the foundation on which he have built science and math. They are arts themselves. Art is human discovery expressed, whether it is internal or external, scientific of musical.

“I know that some of you are goal oriented and wish to become a doctor, economist, mathematician, lawyer.. It is a fact that these are noble pursuit. These are there to sustain our lives. But literature, arts, love, romance, friendship.. these are what we life for.” Dead Poet Society. (I know it is not in exact words, but it comes very close)
They “kill” you …
They “kill” you for having the same view on education and society like Ken Robinson, SUPER !!!!, and i admire his presentation, we need more of you !!!!!. (so i am not one of the view).
He sounds like Alan …
He sounds like Alan Watts.
I think math and science are valued the most in education because they’ve resulted in the most dramatic changes in the world, and there is a clear way to objectively measure success in these fields.
A painting or a song only has subjective value, but I find these things serve as the motivators of the masses to accomplish things.
