Would a masters in teaching or in literatrue be better to teach high school english?
I’m finishing up my BA in english lit and planning on going to grad school before teaching at the high school level. The school I’m at has both a MS in teaching program and a MA in literature program. Which one would be better?
Do you already have teacher certification? If not, you will need to make sure to get that as part of your grad program. Normally the MS in teaching would make you look better when applying for jobs, especially if you didn’t do a lot of education courses as an undergrad.
Since you already have your BA in the field you want to teach, an MA in lit isn’t really necessary. I would only choose that one if I already had the teacher cert but was considering pursuing jobs besides teaching high school in the future.
MA in literature program; if possible a course from CIFL, Hyderabad or British council.
