How has rapid advancements in technology change our educational institutios?
I am writing a compare and contrast essay on college age students under 30 yrs old do not relize the impact technology has on their studies compared to college students over the age of 30.I just need some input from other people so that I can create my outline.
Here are a few rambling thoughts.
On-line education has allowed many people, who would otherwise not have had the time, take college classes and earn degrees.
graphing calculators and graphing programs have changed the way mathematics is taught. Much less time is spent on teaching student how to graph and think in both 2d and 3d.
discrete and finite mathematics have emerged from the background thanks to spread sheets and programming languages.
statistics has become more important and much easier to teach. where we once taught and learned primarily theory we can now use computers to do many time consuming calculations and concentrate on how to interpret the results rather on how to obtain them.
Presentations by professors have become more interesting and teaching methods have changed. Many professors are no longer simply using chalkboards but are using interactive computer response systems as well as power point presentations.
writing papers is much easier now that you don’t have to pay someone to type your papers for you, it turns out that the typing class i had in high school has been the most useful class i took. Not that i can spell correctly or type very fast.
the first real technology that has shaped our schools is Sputnik because that’s when we realized that to beat the Russians that we need to raise the basics of math and science to a higher level in my eyes

On an analog level, when I was in school we had at least one hard back book for every subject (except gym of course) today teachers use copiers to run off the lessons for their classes. A heck of a lot cheaper than buying hundreds of books.
