How Not to Ruin Your Life with Ben Stein.
You may know him best for his deadpan delivery in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, or his offbeat game show, “Win Ben Stein’s Money.” But this active thinker is also a major contributor to current discussions and understanding of business, ethical and social issues in the world of finance, and the political and social content of mass culture. Come hear this polymath speak about the many economic, political and social issues confronting us today – The Commonwealth Club of California
Ben Stein is a lawyer, economist, and commentator on finance (and a well-known actor and Hollywood personality).
Stein served as an economist at the U.S. Department of Commerce. He has been a longtime contributor to Barron’s and a columnist and editorial writer for the Wall Street Journal. He has also written extensively about finance for New York magazine and the Washington Post.
In addition to writing for Yahoo! Finance, he currently writes a biweekly column on economics and finance for the New York Times and appears weekly on the Fox News network commenting on finance and economics.
He is the author of several personal finance books, including How to Ruin Your Financial Life, Moneypower: How to Make Inflation Make You Rich, Financial Passages, and – with Phil DeMuth – the best-sellers Yes, You Can Time the Market, Yes, You Can Be a Successful Income Investor, and the forthcoming Yes, You Can Still Retire Comfortably.
Stein is Honorary Chair of the National Retirement Planning Coalition, and lives in Los Angeles, Calif.

Ben, check out the …
Ben, check out the long term NAEP scores on the “America’s Report Card” website — they’ve been running them since 1971, and the scores haven’t changed much at all.
Our “crisis” in education is a manufactured one.

“to make scientific community look like Nazi organization”…Yes, that is correct. Science does not know everything especially when it comes to prescription drugs and vaccines…!!!
LMAO!
yep i believe you …
yep i believe you cause it will be consistent with Jew teachings
As a Jew and a lawyer Stein should lie,lie and lie, that is his only job and that is all he can do as the mentally challenged “person” he is.
Anyway i do not follow too much “documentaries” from Jew media.
Not only because the natural disposition of Jews lying to everyone, but because i find their information very primitive, boring, unfounded and over biased.
I think today people are able to “call the bluff” of these clowns easy
yeah I’m doing it …
yeah I’m doing it right now
Not gonna argue …
Not gonna argue that he worked his butt off . . . worked his butt off trying to make scientific community look like Nazi organization. Because what, they wouldn’t accept Intelligent Design? Rightly so! Keep that in your church please.
Yeah, he interviewed people from both side of the camp, sympathizing more toward one side while subtly demonizing the other. If that’s his judgement process, fine. Whatever. He is, after all, an ‘average judge’, if you wanna call him that.
He worked his butt …
He worked his butt off by traveling the world to make that documentary, and THIS is the thanks you give him???
He’s interviewed famous people 50/50, and he (like any average honest judge) is deciding what is best or most important.
PS: At least interviewing him yourself will always make a difference.
Ben has the right …
Ben has the right idea of how much America is lagging behind in educating children. Shame he was in that propaganda piece called Expelled. Nothing but rhetoric and false information in that film.
@angelchild829 I …
@angelchild829 I also want to say that not all teachers are like this. Then I have to place the blame on the parents and the children. But seriously the grownups should know better. How many teenagers WANT to learn. I’ll be generous and say half, but most of them want to socialize. It’s the job of the adults to make them learn.
Sorry my comments are so long. This issue just really makes me mad. We are going to be a dumb nation because we care more about football than teaching our kids.
China has a billion …
China has a billion people. India has a billion people. And education is a big part of life there. What are we going to do in 10 years with our 300 million people who are much less intelligent because the school system failed us. I know. China will be the world leader and we will be painting the toy trucks with toxic paint.
I have to somewhat …
I have to somewhat disagree with Mr. Stein when he says he blames the children. It is partly the children, but a lot of the teachers are crap. They don’t teach anything until it’s time for the graduation exam. They sit in the classroom and draw a paycheck while the children become dumber.
my math teacher …
my math teacher sounds exactly like ben stein!! LMAO its hilarious! xD
What a …
What a self-servicing sanctamonious hypocrite. He is a self-acknowledged pot head, presumably reformed and now makes fun of his successors. This goof is NOT an trained economist; consider his 2007 interviews by Caputo where he pooh-poohs the financial market and claims everything will be OK. It is amazing and disgusting that he stills is lionized as some kind of financial guru. He isn’t- he’s a blabbering jerk and con artist.
@Nades129 I agree, …
@Nades129 I agree, educating people to produce capital shouldn’t be the better part of the argument
This is hysterical …
This is hysterical given that Stein is an adversary of the theory of evolution and a proponent of “intelligent design”.
Could it be that …
Could it be that America has a culture where education is not valued, but only making money?
Could it be that potsmokers could do good at school while smoking pot?
Boycott ben stein …

A link between …
A link between standards in education and the attitudes towards learning is first sensible utterence I’ve ever heared from Stein.
I am not an educater but I am educated. The capacity of the adelescent mind for learning and absorbing information is staggering. Reconciling this with the rest of the adelescent baggage is the teacher.
It is the lack of respect and support by the PARENTS towards teaches (& learning generaly) that has changed, this is reflected in theattitude of their children.
I guess you don’t …
I guess you don’t know what creationist support.

Hi am from the UK, i was wondering if u guys have the crazy curriculum that we have. Our gov introduce lots of 4 kids 2 learn. In comp school they learn about human rights, sexual behaviour (not allowed in faith schools). Yeah our teens know about their rights in the EU but halif of them r leaving school without learning 2 write. Our teachers cant say anything to them, they av no respect for the teachers most of them just want to be famous. Who wants 2 b brainy when u can b famous.
