How should we deal with classroom violence?
Both teachers and pupils are the victims of classroom violence. A survey published by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers shows that almost a third of the teachers in our schools have been attacked with weapons, punched, kicked or bitten by students. Teachers have said "excluding violent youngsters is not the answer". What is?
You have to extract the culprits and they have to face criminal charges. There should be certain schools allocated for these disruptive and violent children where they will be supervised and dealt with my specially trained and physically prepared teachers. No teachers and chilldren under their care should be forced to endure intolerable conditions. These disruptive are the ones causing problems on our streets and it is time that we all took a stance to stop this cancer which is spoiling our lives.

If anyone punched, kicked or bit me I would give them a swift, hard smack in the mouth with something heavy and hard like a hammer.
They would only attack me once.

Go back to the old days, when the principal had the power to cane the offender. Inflict pain on him (or her) and show them what it is like.

Bring back whacking.
Physical punishment and restraint have been the mainstay of teaching discipline to children for tens of thousands of years. Suddenly we abandoned it. This has been a cruel and barbaric experiment on our children and we can now see the results. The loudest voices in the campaign to abolish physical punishment have been the teaching unions. Now rearrange the following words into a well known phrase or saying
you so told

The out come will be walk outs, schools will close. This and other governments should bring back Borstals or institutions for kids who are out of control on our streets and in our school. Our teachers must have protection has there’s and
pupils safety is more paramount than trying to instill knowledge into unruly and,at times, mentally disturbed pupils.

Well in the past the kids or students were really the victims physical Violence by the teachers, which were practices mostly by Old/Traditional Schools..but now has time changed that students are the ones giving physical violence to teachers? Oh well, I guess there are school policies why it shouldn’t reach this "animalistic-approach"..no one should be violated in their rights since both are human..but to avoid this, they should give more Humanistic Approach where they put themselves in the shoes of those who were physically punished…the thing is students took advantage also to the policies where they can’t be punished by the teachers already..students have become more irresponsible and rude these days that is why it led to all this violent stuff……..anyway..guess this is more on country to country educational policies…this isnt really very common somewhere in Asia…what do you think?

A very good question in deed.
Violence breeds violence better not to hit back.
At the same time one should have fist of iron and heart of gold!
I mean, the teachers should unite and see that such students are not allowed to spread violence. Like other bad habits this too can spread! especially if the teaching staff show helpless attitude.
If possible, they should be refrained from attanding class for a period depending upon the nature of the offence, for 3 days to a month. But they must come to school and attend classes held by psychiatrists and councellors. – Indicating that violence is outcome of unhealthy mind and uncontrolled emotions.
I really am not sure whether this will work, but think it is worth trying. If the head of school does not respond the teachers’ association may take up the matter appropriately.

i have thought about this a lot because i am one of those teachers.
seriously, i think lowering class size will stop a lot of violence from happening. i should not have to teach 33 sixth graders in a room that comfortably holds 20. there is so much we could do with 20 students versus 33, including stopping a lot of the violence that happens.

Catch the little darlings on permanent camera loop and PROSECUTE!.Teaching unions should fund prosecutions(against the culpable among school staff as well as pupils) not cry! When I was in school I got caned, sometimes when I was not at fault;but I always recognised that there were times when I had got away with things, but never did I see in my schooldays what was common in my teaching days in the 1980′s.God alone knows what goes today.Remember that misbehaviour thrives on secrecy, when the culprits know teach. hasn’t the time to record everything and refer everything.

I truly believe that the violent kids (as you describe with weapons, punching, kicking and biting) should be sent to a boot camp style school complete with big, stern drill Sargents.
Lots of exercise, lots of discipline.
The line that "teachers have said excluding violent youngsters…" I think is bogus. I don’t mean that perhaps some teachers don’t feel that way. I mean that the kids who are seriously violent make all the other kids miserable and we have seen the results I think.
When I was in the classroom as a teacher, I had a kid go ballistic in the classroom (cursing and threatening). I got the Principal who put him temporarily in the teacher’s lounge while waiting for the on-campus deputy to arrive. While in the lounge, the kid started tossing chairs at the wall.
Meanwhile, back in the classroom, the other students told me they were really scared of this kid. One child said she had been in the same elementary class with him when he had kicked a pregnant teacher in the stomach. I confirmed that this was true.
Sorry, all those kids who were (are) scared have rights too. It is a reasonable expectation that they be safe from harm. Same for teachers. Luckily, the elementary school and her unborn child were OK but that could have turned out much differently.
So… I say… put them in a boot camp style school.
