is the aviation technology class at purdue university a good class to become a commercial airlines pilot?

i want to become a pilot for southwest airlines…i was wondering if the purdues aviation class was a good aviation class. is it hard to get into? what does your GPA have to be to get into purdues aviation technology ?

I’m sure that their program is fine. However, suggest that you explore alternatives as well. It is important to look into all possible paths toward your goals before you commit to anything.

A university program will often cost much more than training at a typical flight school, and there isn’t much advantage to going to an aviation university because at the end of the day, a pilot certificate is a pilot certificate and hours are hours, no matter where you got them. In addition, many people recommend getting a degree outside of aviation to diversify your experiences and to serve as a backup plan.

Do your homework before embarking on this career, and definitely consider all possible paths to your goals. Also get many sources of information because every pilot has a different perspective. The sites below can help as well.

How is the technology of the Guinness Surger unit superior?

I’ve just become aware of this gadget. The technology is said to create the creamy white head that draught Guinness is famous for, but the Rocket Widget contained in Guinness Draught bottles and cans already covers that, and is certainly more convenient. What am I missing?

You aren’t missing much. The proper way to tap a guiness involves a special tap (co2 and nitrogen mixing line) and a lot of time. A proper guiness sits for at LEAST five minutes after being tapped, for that famous rolling head to form.

Looks to me like all this thing does is knock the bubbles around a bit, and convince the convection in the head bubbles to get going, so it looks more like the TV commercial.

How can I hear about new technology before other people?

How can I learn about new technology terms before the general public? FIOS, for examples is becoming a new popular term, but how could I have learned about it many years ago?

Is there a positive technological digest that someone can recommend me to which focuses on BRAND new technology?

be a scientist and make up your own. or subscribe to journals like IEEE, etc – you will know about stuff before JoeSchmoe does at least.

What if technology was completely different?

I was just wondering what if technology was completely different from how it is today. Not based off of electricity to send information but hell something like water. I have a hard time thinking about this because Im so immersed and familiar in the technology we already have, so its hard to imagine.

Its like asking, what would technology be like on an alien planet without electricity? Sort of.

Its all just speculation but please give me something feasible that I can imagine. And no this has nothing to do with the environment and the "going green" movement

Electricity has two main functions. One is for digital switching which makes computers possible. The other is as a power source. Remember, we use electricity in almost every type of technology. While chemical reactions and photons are both capable of supplying energy, storing memory, and performing binary operations, electricity is probably 1000x more efficient than chemical reactions or photons. The probability that a civilization would reach a level of technology anywhere near ours and not have discovered (and adopted) electricity is very small.

However, there is the possibility that a civilization far more advanced than ours may have little need for electricity because they have discovered better alternatives, such as photons (which we employ to a degree today) or some kind of quantum particle interactions which we don’t even understand yet.

But it is highly doubtful that a civilization could evolve without going through an "electricity stage" and also somewhat improbable (imho) that a civilization would ever get so advanced that they abandoned electricity completely.

How can technology help you save money during tough times?

Given the state of the world’s economy, people are looking to reduce costs any way they can. While technology may seem like an expense (in terms of buying computers and peripherals or mobile phones), there are actually many ways in which using technology can help you save — for example, using a webcam instead of a landline phone. How do you think technology can help you reduce costs during this recession?
Thanks to everyone for their excellent suggestions on how to save money by embracing technology. While I was pleasantly surprised at the large number of answers, I recognize the global economy is top-of-mind for many and these responses offered many clever ways to take the pressure off your wallet.

A thrifty mother, Jennifer H, offered some great tips like saving money by visiting online coupon sites (and shared a few of her favourite Canadian ones). In some cases you can print out the coupons, but to save money on ink and paper, many will mail coupons to your home based on what products you buy.

She also talked about using the PC to chat with friends and family around the world, including live video chats via an inexpensive webcam and free instant messaging software such as Yahoo! Instant Messenger or Skype, instead of paying long distance telephone rates. Not only is IM & email faster than mailing a letter or photos, but Jennifer adds an eco-friendly reason: it wastes paper.
While wrapping up, Jennifer says she felt having both a landline and mobile phone was both costly and redundant, and so she has decided to cancel the former in order to save money during these tough times. This is becoming a popular trend in Canada (anecdotally, I haven’t used my landline in ages).

Thank you again for all the great answers I received on this question!

Having internet access allows you to email family and friends and use live chat instead of mailing letters which wastes paper or instead of using a phone.

You can go to coupon saving sites and get different coupons. www.save.ca is one site. And you can go to this site at the beginning of every week and pick different products to get coupons for.

I save on diapers for my daughter by joining huggies site. They mail me coupons for money off the purchase of huggies wipes and diapers.

www.flyermall.com is a site that you can go to to view the flyers for grocery stores and clothing stores, places like that. That way you can see what deals are on in that store and save more money instead of going to the store.

I always make a list of what I NEED at the grocery store and a what I WANT list. I always get the NEEDS first and if I have enough money left over, I get the WANTS last.

Also, if you have a cell phone instead of a home phone, you can always stay in contact with people instead of missing calls for important things like job interviews and such. I have a cell phone and home phone but am getting rid of the home phone. That will save me just over $35 a month. Money that I can put towards more things for my daughter.

What if our technology got so great that we could control what happens after death?

Wouldnt it be cool if technology got so great we could control what happens to you after death? Im talking 1000 years in the future. There wouldnt be any fear of hell or any of that. You wouldnt need to believe in a god. What you do in this life would affect what happens after you die. I think that would be awesome.

No, this isnt stupid at all. IDIOT for saying that. your clearly dont understand "the way things work."
is that idea stupid because its impossible by todays technologies? way is the way it is now "the right way?"
you really believe 1,000 years wont be so different from now its not unrecognizable?
the movement is real for technologies that achieve immortality, people say "its not natural" blah blah blah without spending ANY time thinking about that and what it really means

How fast will technology change 50 years from now?

In 1957 they didn’t have cell phones, personal computers, Ipods, Navigation Systems in cars. With all the growing technology, devices and such.

What would this world be in another 50 years and so on?

And lets be realistic!

There’s no way of knowing! You are assuming things will improve…….I’m not sure. I’m not talking global warming, I’m talking population, religion/social ideals………more social stuff. Society hasn’t always moved forward. Civilizations rise and fall and the technology with it. Roman Empire’s idea of public sewers didn’t reappear for many centuries later.

But to answer: We will have to have new energy sources unless the new technology is first doing more with less energy.

There are not enough raw materiasl around to supply the world. Old landfills will be mined for material. We will use items, then discard them and have them converted into some substance that is used to make new material. Landfills will be obsolete.

What was the technology vital in pushing YouTube to one of the most visited websites?

From a San /diego company which went public in September 2006. CEO vows to overtake Qualcomm as the largest company in San Diego. The technology is recommended by YouTube and Google and is the "glue that holds the entire digital media marketplace together".

It was not technology but simply its easy-to-use interface that allowed whole families to use it.
